Punch Needle Class scheduled for Saturday, October 16th, 2010!
Pumpkin Pie from Threads That Bind -- click to see lots moreJoin us from 9 to 11am for two hours of *Getting Punchy!* Mona teaches a great class, and this is no exception. Russian Punch Needle is fun! Everyone likes the models in the shop, and although this is not a difficult technique, there ARE hints and tips to learn that will make your projects frustration-free!!!

Not Cross Stitch at all, this is a technique similiar to rug hooking -- you jab the needle into the material, leaving little loops on the backside (which is really the front!)
Note: the pic at right IS NOT the class project -- just a cute example of one of the many cool projects we have in our Punch Needle Area!
Please call the shop to register.
Russian Punch Needle Class runs $25.00, all materials included.

A tribute to Edgar Allen Poe... Seasons in Letters... and Cookies from the Oven... Vicki is delivering us quite a medley of cute designs! The Master and the Macabre brings us the decaying House of Usher, and all sorts of other *EAP* really scary stuff! Autumn and Winter spell the seasons with panache -- sometimes you can figure out how to replace the motifs onto different letters, if you want to stitch only an initial. Fresh from the Oven is cute and kitchen-y! All are offered as leaflets.

Lizzie Kate's 15th (!!) annual set of 5 small-ish ornament-y designs... my favorite this year is that skinny "Feelin' Festive" reindeer! Stitch counts of 50 x 50, each design is quick, colorful and this year, features a small verse of some sort.

All five charts are offered in one pack, the embellishment pack is separate... so you can stitch a bazillion of these! All the previous 14 issues of Tiny Tidings are still current, and lots of fun to browse through on our LK pages!

Lizzie Kate's 2010 set of Double Flip designs -- 6 cards of two designs each -- is HERE!
Here's the gigantic combo of all of it stitched together, trimmed with her 'Christmas Rules' at the top.

Each Rule is really its own small chart, and can be stitched just by itself. If you want everything as pictured... you'll need all six cards, and the FREEBIE border that will be offered on the LK website. We'll be doing an auto-ship for the rest of the cards... makes it so easy for you to collect the correct combination, as soon as each is released. 4 More small bits of Christmastime wisdom... here are Rules Number 5 - 8 of Lizzie Kate's Christmas Rules! Of course, all 12 look great stitched together, but you CAN do just one of two, or the whole set -- but just make them into little cubes to sit all about the house. That way, all this good advice doesn't go wasted! I love the 'Keep the Schedule Light', and 'Listen for Reindeer'. Offered as Double Flips, each card includes two of the 12 designs in this set.

from With Thy Needle & Thread

Brenda Gervais has two new cross stitch designs that are just like no others! I wish this verse were charted... (It is in the package... and I bet you could chart it), and add it to this piece! 'Jolly Wolly pumpkin head, you're happy, tell us why? 'I'd rather be a pumpkin head than a pumpkin pie!' What a fun little farm scene with that big blackbird flying over the sunflowers! Stitched in regular DMC flosses, this finishes approx 8 x 8-1/2 on 32ct.

St Noel has a Pennsylvania Dutch feel to me... and his pattern comes with complete finishing instructions and full-sized template for that cute Ditty Pocket. (Brenda *even* tells you how to age the sheet music tucked into the pocket!) St Noel measures approx 4 x 7, and offers a great finishing presentation. Large printed charts, these are beautifully presented in full color.

Stack of Jacks from AB Designs - click for moreAugust 17
Stack of Jacks from AB Designs
One of 3 new designs... AB Designs has the cutest new stack of pumpkins -- all decorated with Charcoal noses and wired Memory Thread smiles -- stitched in colorful overdyeds on Weeks 30ct Guacamole linen! Offered as the chart, with embellishments, Stack of Jacks measures approx 3-1/2 x 7 inches -- actually kind of teeny! It is the first in 4-seasons... Stack of Snow will be Winter's design, (coming the end of Sept.) Stack of Butterflies comes for the Spring, and Stack of Bees is the Summer edition.

The black Memory Thread is a coated wire that you bend and twist, to make any shape you want. It gets 'tacked' onto your finished stitching, and really POPS! I just love the colors on this one -- green linen and backgrounds, bright oranges and yellows in the pumpkins, and that purple moon! Offered as the chart with embellishments, the Memory thread is separate, and comes on a card of 3 yards, which will probably last you forever!

This first chart includes the chart for all you see, along with snap and button embellishments. The next two designs will come as small charts, with more snaps. (They usually run $7-ish.) Measuring 5 x 11 on 32ct, you can choose any fabric you like, and you can use either DMCs or overdyeds from your stash.
VERY cute... let us know if you want to join the Auto-Ship to receive the last two parts!

A Gift for You -- Holiday Hang-up from Bent Creek - click for moreA Gift for You -- Holiday Hang-up from Bent Creek
Here's a cute little snowman bringing a sack full of goodies! Stitched on 32ct (Confederate Gray?) Belfast with a combination of DMC and overdyeds, and garnished with a snowflake button, this offers a new finishing technique for Bent Creek! After stitching is finished, you'll gather the linen around a 3-1/2 inch round finishing form (we love those metal forms!) and then glue it to a piece of felt. The felt included in the kit is a gunmetal gray -- to match his hat.

Wouldn't a piece of Weeks Lancaster Red or Sweet Potato (that matches his nose) Houndstooth wool be pretty behind that black? If you're a whiz at making twisted cord, you could even dress the linen edge a little! A neat splash of color against your tree! The complete kit includes the chart, linen, flosses, flake button, one finishing form disk, felt and hanging ribbon. Cute and Quick!

Silver Needle's *S.S. Alfredo* Mediterranean Cruise -- Summer 2010
Silver Needle sponsored a lovely trip to Spain, Italy and France aboard Royal Caribbean's Voyager of the Seas, in June of 2010. We had a lovely time exploring Europe with our stitcher friends! Some husbands came along, but for the most part, our group consisted of ladies who all stitch together, or who met life-long friends now living miles away from each other.

Our trip was organized by a wonderful tour-lady -- Judy Bradford, of Expedia Cruiseship Centers -- who *does trips* with panache! Judy did all the hard part -- all the flights, hotel bookings, transports -- all the yucky stuff. Silver Needle provided the stitching and the friendships! Spain, Italy and France all came through beautifully -- delivering us days and days of great shopping, perfect weather, awesome sightseeing, and lifelong memories! I've chosen about 70 (of my 800-ish pics!) to share a bit of our trip with you. This was a challenge -- to pick JUST a few, not missing anything really cool!!! So... lets see how I've done...

from Giulia Punti Antichi

Giulia Manfredini designed this charming sampler for The Silver Needle! We spent the day with Giulia a few weeks ago, when SN took a group of 72 on a cruise to Italy and France. Standing on the waterfront in Liguria, Italy... the morning of our day together in Cinque Terra, Giulia presented us with her sampler, inspired by antique Italian motifs! Such a lovely day... and a pretty piece to remember it by.

Measuring 10 x 18 on 28ct Antique Tan linen, this is worked with a special color set of Valdani hand dyed Italian Flosses. There are two of rows of Cut and Drawn Threadwork, rows of geometric waves -- they remind me of the marble carvings on all the cathedrals we saw, and Roman Numerals -- not regular numbers!!! Giulia even added a picture to the back of the chart to SHOW you where we spent our awesome day together! So... we share a bit of our Cruise and trip to Italy with you!!!

Quilters' Travel Companion - 11th Edition 2010-2012 - click for moreQuilters' Travel Companion - 11th Edition 2010-2012
The newest edition of this wonderful travel guide for any quilter - or lover of fabrics and stitching - has arrived in the shop. It is 640 pages in soft cover format that lists shops in all 50 states; shops in all the Canadian provinces; and, even shops in The Bahamas! Wow!! There are over 2050 featured shops and 450 of those have never been included in this publication before.

Each state has a map showing the location of the shops along the highway system and each location is cleverly numbered so that you know exactly which shop corresponds to which city on the map. The shops are listed alphabetically by city with their address and phone number. Some of the shops have advertisements included in the book and just a few do not. There are pages for each state's quilt shows, too!

This is book is mesmerizing! You can spend hours looking at the advertisements - seeing the location of shops on the maps - and reading about the various quilting festivals and exhibits throughout our country and Canada. If you are planning a road trip (or even if you plan on staying home and ordering by phone or the web) this is a must for all needleworkers!

Graffiti Scissors from Dovo - click to see moreGraffiti Scissors from Dovo
DOVO has sent us some new scissors -- Carbon Steel -- 5-inch embroidery style, that are the cutest things! (We had purchased the first and only 11 of these that they had made as prototypes, and featured them in our last e-mail newsletter. Promising an introduction into the permanent line... we're so excited that they came to us so quickly!!!) WONDERFUL cutting action, these are a 5-inch style that feature a white enameled finish decorated with child-like graffiti decoration! I said, in my initial e-letter, that they were TOO good to give to a child, but that any teacher or scissor collector would LOVE them!

Dovo is now embossing the metal blades with their logo, and Solingen 'license' logo -- which is a very nice, elegant touch! Very nice, very fun... I keep asking the difference between forged (those first 11) and carbon steel, and they keep telling me... only it never is anywhere in my head, when I need to find it! (know what I mean!?)

This Etui house features a pin-cushion roof (Teresa has handmade all of those for us already!) that lifts off to reveal the tiny 1-inch mouse living inside... he's included, and truly a hand-made miniature masterpiece! His arms and legs move, and his pajamas are precious!

Teresa's original watercolor artwork of gingerbread men is highlighted against her custom-printed fabrics that cover this tiny turret. Elegant die-cut doors and windows, trimmed with antique lace... we'll be stitching the topiary trees and garland above the door, and putting the little house together.

***You will learn everything you ever wanted to know (Or Knot!) about French, Colonial and Bullion Knots. Instead of spending 4 hours in a class doing them repeatedly... you'll learn to conquer them QUICKLY, and Get On With Things! Stitch them on your custom printed gingerbread fabric, and then BUILD your mousie's dream house!!! (Complete with antique lace curtains!!!) Our Gingerbread Mouse House measures 8 inches high and 3-1/2 inches in diameter. It is lined with berry red flannels, features a velvet base, and is large enough to hold several special pairs of scissors, your Santa Wish List, your Christmas gift $$ stash... or just that darling little mouse!

Class Space is Limited... as of Wednesday, June 2nd, we only had 29 spaces left! More details follow on our Class Page... there is also a PDF, so you can print it easily. After you've conquered those knots... you'll have a better appreciation of all of Teresa's awesome miniature knotted rug designs we carry!

Seafaring Santas for 2010 from Mill Hill - click for more Seafaring Santas for 2010 from Mill Hill
Every Year, Mill Hill releases 3 Santa Claus ornaments, all stitched in DMC on 14ct perforated paper. These three are # 34, 35 and 36 in that annual set! ALL of them are still available and pictured on our three Mill Hill Kit pages, so I know you'll have fun finding them all. The first nine didn't really have collection names, but then Musical, Alpine, Mountaineer, Polar, Medieval, Appalachian, Rocky Mountain and Arctic all came along, to make this a really neat set of ornaments.

All are offered as complete kits of the chart, flosses, a smattering of beads (not many), needles, and the paper. They don't always look like the Santa you might remember... but I guess Santa looks different in every country -- and all during the year!!!

2010 Winter Button & Bead Kits from Mill Hill
This season's newest Mill Hill Designs are on their way, and your stitching bag is going to need to make room for them! They're all expected to arrive at the end of this week.
Some fun and different designs this season... The Clock Repair Shoppe joins the Village series, Let it Snow is a frosty snowflake scene looking out of a frosty window. Frosty seems to go with Let it Snow -- we just love that frosty snowman. The Through The Woods sleigh scene looks so 'retro' and heartwarming, and joins that Village series as well, and the Gingerbread House looks good enough to eat!

Offered as complete kits of 14vy perforated paper, along with tons of beads, DMC flosses and a Mill Hill hand-painted button! (Our shop models are always on 28ct linen... if you want a color to match the paper in the kit, other than Natural, please tell us!)

Festive Trees Ornaments from Mill Hill
This is a new collection of designs... a set of 6 different Christmas Trees... that are shown as ornaments. Approx 2-1/2 x 3-1/2 in size, each tree is stitched on 14ct perforated paper in DMC flosses, and garnished with a small brass charm. We think they'd be AWESOME on fabrics, and finished with a bit of stuffing, a pretty bow, and a bit of cording on the edges. Six trees, each one is as pretty as the last! Three indoor and three outdoor... I'm not sure which is my favorite!

Offered as small ornament kits, such a pretty set, each kit includes the paper, chart, flosses, beads, embellishment and necessary needles... they'll also arrived at the end of this week.

The Nativity Story from Blackberry Lane - click to see more The Nativity Story from Blackberry Lane
Blackberry Lane designs has a set of lovely table dressings -- a Runner or Topper - each offered separately in chart format. The 8 x 29 (stitched size on 28ct, before any border) Runner features the Nativity story in a long row... the Topper 33 x 33 (on 28ct includes a 5-inch border), is basically the same design, stitched into a square.

Quite classic, each design is monochromatic -- pick a favorite hand-dyed to match your decor -- and features the Star of Bethlehem in gold metallic. Each side of the Topper tells the story of Joseph taking Mary to Bethlehem, Shepherds gazing at the Star, the Shepherd's visit, and finally the 3 Wise Men.

The runner is charted minus Joseph's trip with Mary. Really nice pieces, very classic. I don't know which version to tell you to stitch -- they're both elegant!

The chart includes three bead 'jewels' and a tiny brass camel charm, along with a one-page history lesson of the Story of the Three Kings. It is going to be the first of Marie's 6 First Noel Ornaments... the chart's back page teases us about the rest coming in future years.

The Magic of Snow Globes first design is The Snow Day. A classic, antique scene, complete with plump snowman... this one measures 80 x 80 and calls for 48 different colors! Simply lovely pieces... offered as charts.

I've fallen in love with some awesome French designs by Ann Regnier, and we simply had to have them!! All are offered in chart format, and presented in both French and enough English to figure out what's going on... along with those ever-comforting DMC color numbers for the threads!!!

I've chosen 'In My Basket' and 'J'Arrive' to show here... but we have 10 other designs as well, so you're in for a treat! Most of them feature special stitches that are incorporated into the design. In My Basket looks like it is loaded with them, and it IS!
NOTE: Our Shipment to you of Spring Frills has been delayed. It seems the hand-dyed Lavender Whisper Cashel Linen fabric -- which is en-route from Germany -- has been held up by the Iceland Volcanic Ash Cloud!!! We are watching for early May delivery!

DOVO Curved Lefty Embroidery Scissors - click for moreDOVO Curved Lefty Embroidery Scissors
Talk about Specialty Scissors... these are a wonderful new offering for left-handed stitchers ONLY! (Hey, check out that Left-Handed Stitch Diagram Book we have as well!)

DOVO Curved Lefty Embroidery Scissors - click for more DOVO of Solingen, Germany, has mastered their regular left-handed embroidery scissors into a slightly curved style, which is AWESOME to use! The slight curve to the blades gives your hand the room to get really close to the cutting area without your hand crushing, brushing, bumping, and smashing which you've already stitched on your fabric!

Just like cutting through hand-rolled butter... these are SUCH a delight to hold and flex! DOVO's brushed stainless finish, super-tapered hot-forged tips, the finger holes are generous, the finish is smooth, and the points and blades razor-sharp. Luscious!!!

My Pinkeep from Dessins DHC - click to see more My Pinkeep from Dessins DHC - click to see more My Pinkeep from Dessins DHC
Marie Suarez brings us this *exquisite* little pin keep design... you'll LOVE it! The kit contains a beautiful hand-carved bone medallion that measures approx 1-5/8 inches in diameter. You can see it... it takes up one entire side of the tiny round keep.

Next, you get a piece of linen banding -- it features your tiny heart stitching that wraps around the keep! We've never SEEN banding that is 7 stitches wide!!!!! Your initial is stitched on the included 40ct linen -- ALL 26 letters are charted for you inside their tiny vines. (not just the letters... you have 26 disks of floral initials in here!) My Pinkeep from Dessins DHC - click to see moreThere's felt, cardboard and batting in here, along with the finishing instructions, as well! You'll need to supply the linen and materials that makes the small case to store your precious keep, but those instructions are included, too.

The shop gals kind of went nuts over this piece when I brought it back from Market! It's so delicate, so unique, I think the medallion and banding are over-the-top cool, and it's a steal at $23!

Autumn at Hawk Run Hollow
from Carriage House
Carriage House's 5th set of scenes all around the village of Hawk Run Hollow is here! Celebrating Autumn, it covers the harvest season, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. Joining Houses, Village, Shores and Christmas... Kathy says this is her last HRH set. We stood together in her booth at Market... all 5 of them were there on display, just stunning!

Just like all the rest, this piece features 12 squares of designs, that can be stitched individually or together. Every single panel is neat... it's kind of fun to look at the set of patterns and TRY top choose your favorites! Autumn is stitched in a different configuration than the rest, so linen has been ordered.

Charted for silks or DMC floss... overall finished size is approx 9 x 32 on 40ct, or 13 x 44 on 28ct! Offered as the chart, all other HRH charts are still available!

Moonlight Madness by Debbie Mumm from Mill Hill
Mill Hill has a new set of 6 Halloween bead kits that are bright, bold, funky, fresh, and too darn cute!!! Designed by Debbie Mumm, they finish approx 4-1/4 x 6-1/4 and are stitched on 14ct aida. Three are on bright apple/lime green, the other three on black... all are stitched with DMC flosses and smatterings of beads (more cross stitching than bead work.)

I just LOVE 'em! All are contemporary, only Witch Hazel has skinny legs... everybody else is very *rotund* in this set... and every one is cuter than the last! Complete kits include the chart, needles, flosses, fabric and beads. Very JAZZY!
