Webmaster's note: don't miss Scissors, page 2!

Welcome to our "Scissors Heaven!"
We have an entire display case full of the most wonderful Solingen Steel Cutlery from Germany, unusual novelty scissors from France, top quality embroidery scissors from Italy -- just a wonderful array! We're highlighting a few here, and will be adding more to treat you! (I kind of have this "scissor thing"...)

Featured here some styles from: Dovo, Gingher, Wasa, and some French and Italian importers. (Many have no names, per se, and since the invoices are often in German or Italian, I have no idea just what they call them! We just know that we LOVE them! So we've given all of them our own "SN numbers," to keep them straight!!!)   I'll try to give you some info about each!!!

Pauline Revisited and Antonia Revisited Scissors by DOVO - click for more
Announcing NEW DOVO Embroidery Scissors!
Two past favorite scissor styles are being manufactured again (for a limited time?) and will be available to us in early June! We used to have both these styles in multiple finishes... so think of this windfall as a TOTAL SCISSOR BONUS! Quite a lovely surprise... Definitely another chance to get some very special and wonderful scissors!
  • The Pauline - Revisited! This is a lovely 3-1/2 inch embroidery scissor - 'practically perfect in every way!' Our Silver Needle 35th Anniversary Pauline style (sold out) featured a brushed gold finish with DOVO's tapered extra-thin cutting tip for Handanger Embroidery. These NEW Pauline Revisited feature a Brushed Stainless finish (looks like Pewter) and features DOVO's classic, thin blades all the way to the tip. (No extra tapering... just sleek, beautiful, smooth blades.) You'll love them!
  • The Antoinia - Revisited! This is a wonderful 4-inch scissor. A little longer than the Pauline, finger holes a tiny bit larger, cutting blades a teeny bit longer, they just feel great in your hand. Very sleek and efficient. Our SN 35th Anniversary Antonia style (sold out) featured a brushed gold finish. These NEW Antonia Revisited feature that brushed stainless finish - looking like Pewter.
Our favorite scissor manufacturer - DOVO - from Solingen, Germany had massively re-organized 4 years ago, and dissolved their scissor division. The tiny bit left of the company has been manufacturing shaving implements all this time. Someone smart, somewhere (!) decided they really still needed to do embroidery scissors - and here we are! I don't know how long we'll be treated to our scissors, but we are thrilled for whatever we can have! We're taking reservations now for early June 2024 delivery! We will charge your credit card at time of shipping in June.

Announcing The Silver Needle's 35th Anniversary Scissors!
DOVO Solingen - click for more Limited Edition Gold Embroidery Scissors by DOVO
Directly from Solingen, Germany - Exclusive to The Silver Needle

The Silver Needle's 35th Anniversary Scissor Circle - click for more We commissioned embroidery scissors from our favorite scissor manufacturer - DOVO - of Solingen, Germany! What a fun Birthday Celebration this was for us.
We chose super-favorite styles that DOVO has never produced in their brushed gold finish before. The scissors will never be available to anyone else... they are exclusive to The Silver Needle ONLY! It is our One-Time Anniversary set... so once they are gone, they will be gone forever!

The DOVO company had manufactured fine cutlery for almost 140 years. The embroidery scissors they made are painstakingly precise in measurement and balance. Their tips are sharp - be careful - you can cut yourself with these! The cutting action is soooo smooth - something about the featured brushed finish of our Anniversary Set feels like nothing else. DOVO scissors are simply lovely to look at, hold and use! These are definitely a treat for any stitcher!!!

Our scissors are forged from Stainless Steel, machine and hand-honed into perfectly smooth pieces. Treated to a "Gold Plating Bath," we end up with beautiful, sleek cutting instruments for our needlework. Since these styles were never *in the production schedule* till we commissioned them (it took 2 years to get to this point!)... they are being made NOW... only for us!

Presenting our Anniversary Scissors: The Antonia (now sold out), Margaret and Pauline (also now sold out). Named after my Grandmother, Aunt and Mother, we named our scissors so they'd be easy to identify... and not be just more 'pretty faces' in the world of scissors! Here we go:
  • Margaret - Wow... this is a wonderful little 3-1/2 inch scissor. The blades are CURVED. NO... you don't get a 'curved cut' -- remember there just a razor-sharp, and very thin edge that is touching your threads as each is cut! The scissors are straight, but the blades curve 'up' a little, which gives your hand much more room to 'get in there' to get a close cut. You can maneuver your scissors much closer to where you want to be. Might seem strange, but you'll love how they feel. Margaret's blades are only 3/4 of an inch long, but the length on the way to handles gives you lots of leverage, very precise and nice to use! (My Aunt Margaret wasn't the 'curvy type' gal... but she was the single sister, she had a glamorous job downtown, and spending the night at her house was the BEST! Together with my Mom, she loaned me my SN starter $$!)
So... Treat yourself to perfectly lovely needlework scissors. I am sure you have lots of fun designs in your stash to stitch fobs or scissor cases for them... if you don't... we can help with that, too!

Here are this year's enaneled scissors by Gingher! Gingher describes Rynn as 'an organic, nature-inspired and balanced color palette which adds a calm, meditative energy to your collection.' Well, I'm not always calm when I'm cutting... but I DO love pretty scissors!

Traditional Gingher quality in these, very nice, sturdy embroidery scissors for lightweight threads and heavy-duty dressmaker shears for fabrics. Limited Edition for 2021!

Four Different Small Embroidery Styles
Each comes with its own leather protective sheath for the blades.
From left to right: Lion's Tail, Epaulette, Stork and Large-Handled. The first three are 3-1/2 inches in overall length, while the large-handled style is 4-inches... just a bit bigger - for a larger hand.

Ginghers are generally on the more 'sturdy' end of our embroidery scissors. NEVER EVER cut paper with them. Cut nothing too heavy - like yarns (or you will loosen and ruin the tension screw) and DO NOT drop them. They'll give you years of good use!

Cutting Recommendations for Shears: Moderate to heavy needlepoint and knitting yarns and fabrics. Never paper.

WASA Scissors
WASA Scissors

What an exquisite treat we have in the shop!!! From the Solingen Valley of Germany, WASA is world-famous top-quality cutlery manufacturer -- a compliment to and competitor of DOVO! We have some new styles that we used to carry (but haven't been able to get for almost 10 years!) and some pretty new offerings!

Stainless steel, hand-forged, gold plating decoration, razor-sharp blades and tips, smooth and 'buttery' cutting action... just like DOVO embroidery scissors... WASA delivers the excellence of German artistry you will LOVE! Each has the WASA name and Solingen embossed into the blades. Choose our Regular-sized leather sheaths for these -- not the Preemie/small size... the double-sized are OK... but a little large.
Two beautiful pairs of scissors
SN21 The Buckingham
A delicate little 3 1/2" scissor... the lightest weight we have... these are truly breathtaking! Such a pretty presentation! They cut beautifully, but are not for heavy weight threads or fabrics!

These are a favorite for fancy needle cases and shadow box arrangements.

Storks and 3.5 inch embroidery scissors from Wasa - click to see the storks opened
Lovely embroidery scissors, all are made in the Solingen Region of Germany... and area world-renown for top quality cutlery.
All feature stainless steel cutting blades, and some have gold plating... just lovely! Excellent cutting action, smooth blades, with nice, sharp tips!

The Storks - This is a classic embroidery scissor style... most commonly presented with gold handles and a gold bird! Beautiful little scissors, the blades are the bird's beak - very slender! Both are stainless - one has some gold plating, the other is classic shiny steel! And now we have a 3-1/2 inch silver stork and a gold 4 inch stork!

Our 6-1/2 Inch Storks are razor sharp - just like their smaller counterparts. Just bigger, and more striking, this size is so unusual, just really a treat to hold and use!

Dr Slick Razor-Sharp Scissors
Presenting Dr Slick Razor-Sharp Scissors

Comparing Dr Slick finger holes with our Dovo Antonia Coming to us from the Fly-Fishing Industry are these incredible 3-1/2 and 4-inch scissors with huge "Gold Loop" finger holes that can handle some pretty serious cutting tasks! Wonderfully rounded handles with a nice weight to them, these feature larger finger holes and wonderfully fine and sharp precision cutting blades.

Take a look at our comparison picture showing the difference between our DOVO embroidery scissors and the handles of these scissors.

Dr Slick uses words like 'Hypodermic Tips' and Tungsten Carbide to describe his scissors. They cut like a dream, and you need them! In trying to decide which ones to get... you really can't go wrong with any of them. Only the Synthetics - #SN65 - really stand out as a different style and feel from the rest. Here are our favorites so far!
Dr Slick SN60 3-1/2 Inch Arrow Dr Slick SN61 3-1/2 Inch Micro Tip Arrow Dr Slick SN62 3-1/2 Inch Micro Tip All Purpose Dr Slick SN63 3-1/2 Inch Tungsten Carbide Arrow Dr Slick SN64 3-1/2 Inch Iris Dr Slick SN65 5-inch Synthetics
  • SN60 - Arrow Scissors - 3-1/2 Inch long with short, sharp blades - the fly-fishers use that notch on the blades of help cut WIRE! The signature Gold Loop finger holes are rounded and nicely sized... trimmed in gold. Entire scissor is Stainless Steel. Super-fine micro-serrated blade, you can barely feel it, but it helps keep threads from slipping around while you cut.
  • SN61 - Arrow Scissors - 3-1/2 Inch long, these have a slightly longer and thinner blade than the #60. These are the 'Hyperdermic tips!' (Which sounds serious to me!) Stainless Steel. Again, the micro-serrations on the blades to keep your threads in place, they still cut smoothly though. You can see the tiny serrations if you hold these in the light just right.
  • SN62 - Micro-Tip All Purpose - 4-Inch Long... Same Gold Loop handle shape as the Arrow, no notch on the blades (although not many stitchers cut wire all the time, so that's OK), they have that 4-inch length with is REALLY nice. Stainless Steel. Blades are a bit over an inch long - just a little longer than the #60 or #61. Again, micro-serration - like little knives with handles! Same as the SN66 but Micro-tip.
  • SN63 - Tungsten Carbide Arrow Scissors - 3-1/2 Inches long. This metal is 7-times harder than stainless steel and these will hold their sharp blade edge longer. They can handle synthetics - like all the metallics and rayon specialty threads we like to use. These are like the SN60, except they are Tungsten Carbide instead of Stainless Steel, and they feature the black coating on the Gold Loop handles... so I guess they are 'Black Loops!"
  • SN64 - Iris Scissors - 3-1/2 Inch. Their Classic Scissor - features the micro Hypodermic tips and classic gold loop handle style. Again, that fine serration to keep your threads where you want them to be when cutting them.
  • SN65 - Synthetic Scissors - 5 Inches in length, they promise you can cut heavy natural and synthetic materials with these. Great, comfortable handles, the blades are still very tapered and thin and feature heavier serrations (you can feel them a little more when you flex the blades). Dr Slick tells his fly-fishers they can cut glo bug yarn, foam, leather, plastic, bead chain, lead, wire and mylar with these... so I think they'll do great on our metallics and heavy threads! Again, super-super sharp!

Dr Slick SN66 4-Inch All Purpose Dr Slick SN67 4-Inch Tungsten Carbide All Purpose Dr Slick SN68 4-inch Iris
  • SN66 - All Purpose Scissors - 4-Inch, A really nice, heavy-duty scissors - that extra 1/2 inch really offers a lot of cutting and hand comfort. Micro-serrations, inch-long blades... overall really good. Same as the SN62, but not the micro-tip.
  • SN67 - Tungsten Carbide All Purpose - 4 Inches of bliss! Same style as the #66, but the harder metal!
  • SN68 - 4-Inch Iris Scissors - Basically the same as the All Purpose, except that Iris features the hypodermic sharp tip. (The other is just as sharp, I think; they'll both draw blood!) It's just that extra 1/2 an inch... it is great for larger hands.

Lady Liberty Scissors by The Scissorist - click for more
Lady Liberty Scissors by The Scissorist
These little charmers are made in the USA! Measuring 4-1/4 inches, they feel on the heavier side - because of the stainless decoration of the Statue of Liberty on their handles. Regular sized finger holes, the blade tips are very sharp.

They come in a leather case that is made in Texas! (Stamped on there and everything!) So scissors and the leather case BOTH from the USA! There's been a big buzz about these on social media - I believe they are a limited edition.

Lady Liberty Scissors by The Scissorist - click for more
Stainless Scissors by Sajou
A trio of really nice, smooth, sharp little embroidery scissors... they are presented by Sajou, feature a cool ribbon 'label' (can be removed by cutting), and come packaged in a pretty cardboard scissor sleeve (asst prints.) The scissors themselves are very nice - they feel really good, have nice sharp tips, and are well balanced. We have three styles - *A* is classic 4-inch size. *B* is the same style as A but only 3-1/2 inches long. *C* is another 3-1/2 inch style with a different curve on the handles.

All three will make great every day scissors. (NOT for cutting yarns or heavy cords or thick threads... these are meant for sewing thread and 6-strand floss. If you cut something too heavy for any of your scissors, you wear the screw that holds the blades together - you 'strip it' - and it causes the scissors to permanently loosen!)

Bohin of France
BOHIN Scissors

Bohin Embroidery Scissors
  • Bohin SN60 Extra-Large Gold Handled - Stainless blades with these nice, large finger holes, these are super-sharp little scissors! 3-1/2 inches.
  • Bohin 3-1/2 Storks - Probably the most recognizable scissor style of all, these are charming, and fun to use! Traditionally the blades aren't always as sharp on the very tip - they are more rounded like a bird beak. The Bohin Stork is more heavy duty than the WASA Stork.

Autumn Luster & Ocean Blue Scissors from Bohin of France Ocean Blue and Autumn Luster Scissors from Bohin of France
These are 3-1/2 inch stainless, and feature a softly curved handle shape. What makes them so pretty is the special finish... a marbling of translucent gold, black and cinnamon colors all bonded onto the metal. Not dipped or air-brushed... this finish is ON THERE!

So pretty, I've never seen anything like these! Very well balanced, nice and sharp, a smooth cutting action, these are just a really nice little pair of scissors! (Not to mention how good they'll look in stitched scissor cases!) Love, love the colors!
Ocean Blue is the color of the Caribbean! Deep aqua, green and blues... simply delightful! These need to garnish every nautical/beachy scissor fob or sewing case you have!

Double Leather Sheaths -- click here to see a larger view!
Leather Scissor Sheaths
Thin, soft leather... the larger double sheaths hold two pair of scissors together! Measuring approx 4 inches long, they will hold scissors that are larger than the regular 3-1/2 embroidery size. Small, simple and functional!
Also featured are the new tiny size, and the regular.

Polka Dot Scissor Sheaths! - click to see more Polka Dot Scissor Sheaths! - click to see more
Polka Dot Scissor Sheaths!
Aren't these fun? These are pretty 'pleather' polka dot covers for your scissors. (Pleather is a kind way to say 'fake leather' or 'soft plastic!') Offered in 6 colors and 2 different sizes, the smaller 2-1/2 inch one fits a standard 3-1/2 inch embroidery scissor. The larger 3-1/4 inch sheath will work for 4 to 5-inch scissors. But... actually each will do the job for either size - some just like more shank coverage, and some scissors fit in one size better than the other.

In the pic, I have our 4-inch Antonia by DOVO pictured with the larger sheath, and our 3-1/2 Buckingham by WASA pictured by the smaller ones. (If you have to have a specific color, not a problem, just let us know in the comments box during your check-out process - we'll do our best!)
